Hari Ohm. As an establishment temples need resources. Also devotees have desires to be fulfilled. Such people need these kind of poojas. However if you practice meditation and chant manthra with devotion, then the Lord will listen to you. In Hinduism Lord never stated that He will listen to devotees’ prayers through someone else . So practice devotion sincerely. Regarding the custom of removing shirt,it has some health benefits. Probably vitamin D requirements from Sun are taken care of by this practice.
