Dhanwantari Murthi is the Presiding Deity of Ayurveda. Leeches were/ are used in Ayurveda to remove clots or suck out stagnant blood to promote circulation and healing and has a major role in treatment of many chronic circulatory problems. Since Dhanwantari is considered an Incarnation of Vishnu, he has Sankh and Chakram. The other hand has Amrit or nectar of life. Hari Om.
