Shradham is your way of paying obeisance to the departed souls. One year in human world is considered one day in pitruloka. So we do annual Shradham with a feeling of providing the departed everyday. It is really for us than for them to remember and respect their contributions to making our lives. Nothing is compulsory, all actions make sense only if done out of understanding and compassion.
