Dear Asokan,
A “Mala” is used for counting the number of “Japa” that you have recited.
It helps you to keep your mind single-focussed on the Nama Japam, to avoid the wandering of the mind.
You can use Tulsi, Rudraksha etc.. as they have medicinal and positive qualities to influence your body too.
