There are two sexes in this world- Male and female. From young age itself, mutual respect and appreciation between parents will teach a child that both men and women deserve respect. As they become teenagers, they should recognize that their bodies are physically different, but mentally both sexes are equally capable and complimentary. By teaching them the reproductive cycle and how nature promotes the male/female relation to enable this world to sustain, youngsters develop a respect for the opposite sex. More importantly they will understand how their mothers gave birth to them. This will help them see another female and her body like his own mother than feeling curious or excited about the “unknown”. Parents should have open discussions without fear/apprehension based on their level of understanding at each age. If a 5 year old asks why the cock runs after the hen, you can say “he is inviting her to form a family like we have”. But when he becomes 15 yrs, you will need to tell him how the male and female hormones are different and why attraction to the opposite sex happens. It is also important to teach them this is a passing phase of growth and he should be able to have female friends exactly like male friends without contaminating the relation with lust or emotional weakness. If they lack proper guidance at this age, they carry this “lust and weakness” towards opposite sex throughout their life. Sex education at home and school are hence very important to create healthy mindsets and responsible individuals. Hari Om.
