Ashtamangalyam means 8 auspicious things. What constitutes ashtamangalyam depends on the occasion. For our usual pooja and ceremonies, we place the following in a bronze plate or thattu.
Gold, Rice, sandalwood or turmeric, vermillion(sindoor), Vaal kannadi, kasavu mundu, kindi with water, and a lighted lamp. In some parts of Kerala coins are added as the 8th item and lamp is carried separate. Hari Om.
