Dear Swamiji, please explain the meaning of the word “surrender” and how this can be applied in daily life? When everything is predefined and no one can change that, what is the role of God/guru in one’s life? Thank you very much, with regards Sumesh

The assumption that everything is predefined and nothing can be changed is not true. It is a defeatist attitude or accepting failure without taking the test. Give your best efforts in any situation. The results may not always be the way you wanted. None the less, the satisfaction that you did your best, is your reward. It is when you assume ownership of anything in life, that it hurts. On the other hand, if you do it as an opportunity given by Bhagavan to serve HIM to the best of your ability, you don’t care about the results, you only think of doing the best. And when you do the best, the best outcomes happen 95% of the times. In the odd 5% when results are not good, if you have a surrendered mind, you are able to take it as a PRASADAM or HIS will. Understanding this way of surrendering your life and situations is the role of spirituality.
A Guru is a “road map” in your spiritual journey. Without the map you can go to your destination, but having one, gives you the right guidance and makes the trip easy and proper. Hari Om.
