Dear Swamiji, if satwik food is so important, why is that great kings of our scriptures including Lord Rama, Janaka, Pandavas and many other realised/advanced souls, did hunting and also ate meat as part of their kingly duties? Even sage Agastya is once said to have eaten meat and digested a Rakshasa. Also Bengali brahmins and purohits have been eating fish for ages. Does heredity and geographics also play a role? Is self-realisation not possible through self analysis alone without making external changes which might isolate one from society?

Dear Murali Mohan,
I appreciate your study on this matter. But remember, you have concentrated on what they have eaten only. Now concentrate on what they have contributed to the society. To attain higher spiritual energy you require a healthy body and strong mind. Vegetarian food will help you in this. What we normally see in the society is that non vegetarians are more prone to diseases than vegetarians. Then how can they concentrate and uplift to the higher level?
