Dear swamiji, In bhagavatham, I read the story of ajamilan. In that it is described that our sins will be forgiven by bhagavan if we are devoted to him. Also there is a part saying that the yamakingaras came to take ajamila to hell at his deathbed. Actually, what is the real meaning behind the story? You always said that hell and heaven is in our mind itself. So in the story by mentioning hell what they actually mean? I don’t know whether the question make any sense. It’s actually a doubt that came to my mind when I read it.

Heaven and hell are experiences our mind goes through when we are alive (embodied) or dead (disembodied). By the nature of our karma vasanas, our mind experiences pleasantness or unpleasantness. This happens during life and after death. However a mind that is devoted to Bhagavan is always saved from the unpleasant experiences or Bhagavan will give you a way out of the unpleasant experience, quickly. After death, it may be by allowing you to be born in an environment that promotes a better spiritual life for you. Hari Om.
