Dear Swamiji, my parents are against my spiritual yearnings and always advice and cajole me to be as wordly as others around me. Hence I have to do all sadhana including attending your talks on the sly by telling them lies (that I am going for work etc). I hate living a double life but at the same time don”t want confrontation with my old parents. Am I doing wrong? I am 46 with bad health but my parents feel I am too young to be spiritual. I have earned enough money in software but they won”t allow me to stop. Please advise.

Dear Murali,
Your parents expect good behaviour and obedience. And God expects only surrender of your thoughts. When you behave according to the expectation of your parents they will be happy. And for your spiritual growth, you should do it silently. If your parents object, convince them positively; if they are not able to understand, tell them boldly that what you are doing is the right thing. One day they will realize that. When Sankaracharya asked for permission for Sanyasam, his mother objected. When he insisted and convinced her, she agreed and later on she realized the greatness of her son!
