Dear Swamiji , Pranam !! I am worried about the academic performance of my son who is in 8th std. now. He was in CBSE syllabus and later we changed him to State Syllabus as his performance was poor. He is very much obedient and listen to all our instructions . He gets up early @ 5 a m and going for tuition @ 5.30 a.m. After tuition he hurried to school after having his breakfast . He is learning Chenda and Mrudangam . But , very reluctant to sit and study . I have to push him a lot for this . If I sit with him , he will study . I am working and my working hours are very long . Still I am trying my level best to coach him . This week husband joined him for another tuition in the evening too . so his schedule is very tight now. I feel pity on him . What should I do for the good performance of my son? Awaiting your reply Thanks

Your son is at an age where he establishes himself as a young adult. Quite often parents forget to identify this and focus on their studies. Instead of pushing him to study, push him to be a respectable individual. The onus of studying and achieving then, will the automatically be on his shoulders. When you say he studies when you are with him, shows he needs you to be involved with him more. It is not the number of tuition classes he goes to, it is the number of quality hours that you as parents spend with him, that matters at this age. Slowly in your conversations you will be able to realize why he is reluctant to study. Also you will be able to impress upon him that a good academic credential is important in the world today. Be very appreciative of even the smallest good things he does. Let him be proud of himself first. Then, he will strive to keep it up. My blessings are with him. Hari Om.
