Dear Swamiji, Pranamam, I have a 3 year old daughter and a 3 months old daughter. Ever since my wife was 8 months pregnant, my elder daughter started acting weirdly. She gets so upset and starts shouting and shivering out of anger. She would take anything as reason to get angry. Generally it is against taking bath, or brushing teeth or eating. At that time she acts as if she has some extra energy and hurts herself and us. After sometime when she is back to normal she feels sorry for what she did. Sometimes she even talks to someone saying ‘uncle’ , ‘aunty’ ‘baby’ is there here at home, but I cant see anything. Outside home she is perfectly alright till now. People said its ‘Drushti dosha’ or ‘Bala peeda’ or it is because of arrival of sibling. I am not sure about all these. Our elders performed few things like spreading ‘dhoopam’ smoke and drushti nivaranam etc and she was fine for sometime. But now again she is upset. We regularly listen to your audios in Youtube. I don’t want to get carried away by myths and spoil my daughter precious childhood. I would like to know your suggestion on this. Looking forward for your suggestion. Namaskaram, Anoop

Your older kid is just going through an exaggerated sibling rivalry. What you need to understand is that a three year old is a baby herself. With the new baby coming she is experiencing significant separation anxiety from her parents, mostly the mother. The younger kid is too young to have any psychological trauma now, but your older daughter needs a lot of love, attention and care to make her feel she is the princess at home. The attention the new baby receives causes a lot of anxiety in her. Understand her helplessness in feeling that someone else is getting all the attention at home. Both you and your wife should take extra time to be with her and involve her in taking care of the little sister. Once she feels she has more love than the new comer, she will be fine. Hari Om.
