Dear Swamiji, We do “sapinnikaranam” to our departed parents on 16th day to lift the soul from prethatma to pithrugana. We believe that they get future births or moksha only if they are lifted to pithrugana and shud not stay in prethavastha. . We spend handsome amount for this pooja and annadanam.. If these are only our way of paying homage and does not decide future births, why we spend money for these. Instead look after them very well when they are alive is enough. Pls advs.

You are absolutely right. Taking care of them when alive, praying for the departed soul and doing some charity for the people alive in their name is enough than any expensive pooja. It is important that the Hindu community moves from unwanted rituals that cause financial burden to simple life based on scriptures. Hari Om.
