Dear Swamiji, A commonly done precious pooja “thilahomam” by brahmins inviting the departed soul to a silver or golden prathima and hears bhagavatha sapthaham touching the prathima with dharbha pullu and after that submit the prathima to Vishnu patham. Before that Vishnu pooja and kalikazhichoottu to 14 brahmins to be performed. Once we submit the prathima to the feet of Vishnu, then the soul is purified and further no rituals to be done for that soul. This pooja is a very costly affair and ordinary people cannot afford it frequently. As u said one cannot purify the soul of others and he has to purify himself by meditation when he is alive. if so what is the meaning of spending huge amounts for these poojas. Is it a mere waste.
