Dear Swamiji, As you said progress in spiritual path should be individual / person to person. We can find out a Guru and get mantra diksha from him and clarify our spiritual queries and we have to find out the truth ourselves. But in many ashrams, devotees are staying there for 30 – 40 years thinking Guru is God. Will this be an obstacle in their spiritual pathway. Pls advs.

Spiritual journey has to be undertaken individually. If you go to an unknown place it helps to have a map or GPS. Guru is like a road map, making your spiritual journey easy since he has walked the path before you.
There is air everywhere but you feel the breeze better under a fan. Similarly you could grow in the spiritual path anywhere but life in an ashram provides the environment conducive to spiritual growth. It should be properly utilized by active participation in the spiritual programs there. Hari Om.
