Dear Swamiji, I am writing this to clarify one doubt which is bothering me for quite some time. I am a viewer of Asianet broad cast of The Bhagvat githa and Bhagavatham. In accordance with Bhagvat Githa (2.22), “As a person throws away the old clothes and puts a new dress, the embodied Self throws away this life time’s body and enters another that is new.” Hower, I listened some talks regarding “ Prethangal”and some rituals being followed by people from Kerala & other states in India, the important one being done on the day of “ Karkitaka Vavu”.As I understood and registered in my mind, this is being done to get moksha for those dead people’s Aathmakkal. It seems, this is in contradiction with 2.22 of Bhagvat Githa. If Bhagvat githa is true, which are these Athmakkals wandering around for whom we are doing rituals every year especially on Karkidaka Vavu. The rituals during “karkidakavavu” are observed to show our respect, homage and Remembrance of the departed elders who contributed their time and wealth for our life.Those who departed already moved from one body to another. The moment one dies, gets associated with the stern in a living body.
We are ever here associating and disassociating from one body to the next.
