dear swamiji,is it necessary to chant mantras while praying to God. I mean we don”t know the meaning of these mantras so why should we chant something we dont know of.

Dear Anjana,
When your mind is focused on some form of the deity, it is easy for the mind to wander here and there unless the interest is deep. When we recite mantras along with the form of deity in mind, the mind loses the freedom to wander. When you chant mantras (even without the knowledge) with utmost sincerity and love, offering your thoughts, definitely it takes your mind close to God. Please note that all our Rishis called our own Chaithanya by different names.
