Dear Swamiji, Last week my friends’s father died at the age of 84. His mother is from royal family and father namboothiri. He was looking after his father so many years but he was not allowed to take the body for cremation as fathers relatives did all the last rituals which hurt him so much. The reason is he is a kshatriya and father brahmin. They are doing the 12th day functions also separately for the same person. When these anacharas are going to be stopped in Hinduism. Swamiji, what is your opinion. Pls advs.

Bhagavan himself has given the answer in Gita.
“Chaturvarnyam mayya………vibhageshaha…… ” Meaning what has been described as four (please note the word is “varnyam” meaning “described as” and not varnam) is based on Gunas (Sat- Rajas- Tamas) and Karma. Meaning no one becomes Brahmin or Sudra by birth. It is an attribute of your quality of thoughts and deeds. HE says “I have described people in 4 different categories depending on their gunas and karma”.
Like you said, these “anacharas” will stop when people understand our scriptures properly, teach their children the real Hinduism, and we transform our society bravely. Each person has to do his part in fighting these misunderstandings that are deep rooted in us. Hari Om.
