Dear Swamiji, My grandson of 2-1/2 years used to join me when I light the Sandhya Deepam. He has many questions to ask. I was unable to give him a proper answer when he asked “why we offer water before the deity”. Please advise.

Puja should me a means to unite our janmam ( ja) with purusha (pu) . Water is just one of the several offerings. Typically it includes pushpam, doopam, deepam, nivedyam, kumkumam or turmeric etc. Water represents the five elements, likewise each of these offerings represent our mind, qualities, emotions etc. that we surrender to Bhagavan during puja.
