Dear Swamyji : i am 65 years old and regular listner of your Discourse in Flower TV In fact, i have been benefitted much by your Programme i.e. got Mental Courage and lost the fear of Death.. i have a doubt :Recently my 62 years Old Cousin Brother expired (Father’s Elder Brother’s Son). Our people say we should not celebrate Festivals like Navarathri, Avani Avittam, Deepavali etc and also they say we should not visit our Family Diety for one years. Is there any significance for this. i fail to understand when we can visit Temple after 13th day Vaikunta Samarathna, what is the harm in visiting a Family Diety and Celebrating the Festivals. Could you kindly enlighten me on this. Thanks in advance. With Best RegardsKrishnaiyer Raman

In the olden days, when families where joint with extended family members living together, it was customary to avoid any celebration for one year in the family. This was to avoid other family members from celebrating before the immediate family of the departed overcame their grief. Also, one year of the human world is 1 day of the pitru loka. So, we did monthly rites till one year for the departed athma. For the same reason, stayed away from the family temple for one year as well. But, now when families have become nuclear, how long you need to abstain from celebrations on behalf of a loss, is a personal choice. Death is an inevitable process and life has to move on. If that understanding happens you can “move on” without being stuck in rituals. Hari Om.
