Life is in fact a journey of the mind, and not a linear event between birth and death. Mind is constantly trying to expand and improve its existence. If you live a good life, your mind carries good impressions as its vasanas. When it leaves one body it tends to gravitate to an environment which will enable it to continue its process of growth. However, if you have a lived a dull life the negative impressions carried as bad karma on your mind forces the mind to move to a miserable surrounding. It will then have to go through the sufferings in order to learn and improve itself and exhaust the karmic burden. As the mind moves to more and more positivity there is less and less chance of it acquiring a body. When it is fully purified it does not need to be reborn again and becomes one with the universal mind, the process we call Mukti. Hari Om
