Hari Om . Recently one of my cousins had a comfortable exit though a asthma patient. Of course she was a noble soul though not spiritual so to say like doing rituals or going to temples and so on. Another cousin who was present said she will have a rebirth because we can escape from universal bonds only after going through a lot of sufferings and agony like Ramana Maharshi, Ancham Namboodiri and so on. How much truth is there in this . I mean we have to undergo lots of pain from a deadly disease to prevent us from rebirth. Swamiji please throw light on to this doubt.

Absence of rebirth is called Moksha. It is not decided by how much you suffer, but how well you live. Every life is a chance to purify our soul by good thoughts and good deeds. Then, we rise to the level of the infinite, pure existence (Sat-chit-anandam) which is Bhagavan himself. If we reach that state then we have no rebirth. So focus on good actions, not suffering. In fact, try to erase sufferings of all beings and uplift your mind in the process. That is the only way to free yourself of the karmic bondage. Hari Om.
