Sivarathri is the most auspicious of all Siva Vruthams. It is a day of fasting followed by all night vigil till the next morning of Amavasya. Sivarathri is to celebrate Siva’s consumption of Halahalam to save the world from destruction and also his appearance as Jyothirlingam or the Ultimate light of wisdom. While we celebrate Sivarathri, we need to develop the inner power to absorb and destroy the poisonous situations that life throws at us. Only when we deal with those effectively, can life be peaceful. For that, we need the power of yoga, jnanam and a meditative mind. Then life will become Sivam or Mangalam (auspiciousness). Hari Om.
