Dear Mihika,
Let me congratulate you for reaching out to clear your doubts. It is only when you have courage to ask, that you learn. Remain curious and remain a learner all your life. Now about your question. The advices that our older generations have given are common sense practices, some for healthy living, some for our protection, some to prevent harm etc. But to enforce it and make sure everyone follows those advices, they would say “It is dosham to comb hair at Sandhya”etc. In olden days, when homes did not have electricity and bright light, combing the hair at night would risk it scattering around and even falling in food that would be typically kept on the floor. Hence they avoided such practices. These are just common sense advices that may be followed today, as well. But there are some other advices that don’t need to be followed today, because our lives have changed a lot. We should be able to follow what is reasonable and discard what is not useful. Hari Om.
