Hari Om, Swamiji ! I’ve read that the Buddha said: “Desire is the root cause of all misery”. But I’m a very ambitious person. I want to achieve wealth,fame, power etc( through noble means ofcourse ) How can I realize my dreams while being spiritual at the same time ?

This is saying of Sri. Buddha, that has been wrongly understood to some extent. He is not talking of your drive or desire to be creative and productive. What he mentions is your desire for those actions to bring you the results you want. Even if you say “I want to be desire free”….. that is still a desire. So man cannot survive without a certain amount of purpose and ambition. In fact, all great acts including that of Sri. Buddha’s was borne out of purpose. However, all your actions won’t bear the fruits you wanted. If you do something looking at the reward, you will be miserable as he said. That is where being “spiritual” helps you. If you can gain the strength to let go of things that don’t happen your way, you can maintain a balanced mind and continue to be ambitious and successful. Hari Om.
