hari om swamiji swamiji, my teacher tells me to do my studies in a restricted way i.e. just learn what is there in the book. but i am against it and i spend a lot of time in knowing outside bookish knowledge. this hs caused a rift in between us swamiji. also i am a slow learner and i am lagging behind everyone. swamiji, am i doing wrong? please advice me.

Dear Rohit,
Knowledge and information are different. Knowledge can not be confined within a text book. But when you are evaluated based on the information contained in a book, you are bound to follow some restrictions. Unfortunately our education system is designed in that way.
You skill lies in balancing both. So, study a subject thoroughly, but keep the examination in mind too. Otherwise, you will lag behind others.
