Hari Om Swamiji, I hail from an Iyer community. I am doing very well in my career. I am married and have a 9 year old son. My wife also works. Few years back i stopped wearing the sacred thread and stopped doing sandhyavandanam. I have to go to office early in the morning and come very late, sometimes as late as 12.30 in the night. Before marraige and a couple years after marraige i used to perform sandhyavandanam, recite vishnusahasranamam etc. Now tell me swamiji why we have to do sandhyavandanam and in my case, with such odd office timings what can i do? If i have to wear the sacred thread again what is the right procedure? Please guide me. Some how i have fallen into the habit of chewing gutka. How to get rid of this habit? Please enlighten. What is the significance of Aavini Avittam? Why do people change the sacred thread that day? Please guide. Pranams

Dear Ramkumar,
Doing Sandhya Vandan is to energise our mind with full of divine energy.
It is not the ritual but your mental involvement and commitment that is more important .
You can again initiate or start using poonool.
Avani Avattom is considers to be an auspicious day, that’s all.
When we pray, our mind generates more divine energy.
The divinely energized mind is a more strong and powerful mind to face any situation.
It also becomes very sharp in taking crucial decisions.
