Dear Vishnu,
When the star Makara comes in the North side, Utharayan starts.
Different stories are heard in different places regarding Makara Sankranthi.
But the real celebration is the Jayanthi of Vishnu Sahasra Namam on that auspicious day.
Bheeshma Pithamaha left his mortal body chanting this Great Mantra in the presence of Lord Krishna!
