Hari Om Pranamam Swamiji I am very thankful and blessed to receive the answer from Swamiji to my doubts raised through a question on 20th November 2010. Swamiji,in temples the Hindus worship the idol (vigraha) as the Lord of the concerned temple.Garlands made of flowers are adorned on the idol and made pleasing for the devotees to see and worship.Along with this adorning of flower garlands,it is noted that in some temples especially where the idols are Vigneswara,Hanumanji etc.,garlands made of ‘appams’, vada etc. are put . Swamiji, my doubt is whether there is any such act of offering to Lord enshrined in the Vedas or Puranas of Hindu mythology? If nothing as such is mentioned in Vedas or Puranas,then why such silly acts are promoted or encouraged in temples? Similar is the case with ‘Neyyabhishekom”. When we view the Lord as Human or we ourselves, wearing these appam and vada garlands and pouring of ghee from the head, will these acts not suffocate the Lord? And will it not loo

You are aptly pointing to the blind beliefs in our temple culture.
These are not mentioned or recommended in our Scriptures!
We need to uplift our minds from these dramas to Bhakthi and Jnana!
