The word Krishna means that which attracts. So Krishna is the embodiment of all that is beautiful and attractive. Devotion has several levels. Salokya, sameepya, saroopya, sayoojya. The first one is salokya or devotion that arises from looking at the Divine. When the form is attractive, and enchanting the devotee automatically wishes to be near the Divine (sameepya). That leads to a mental transformation and makes the devotee behave like the divine or express Divinity in thoughts and actions (saroopya or alike). In the final stage the devotee merges and becomes one with the divine. There is no two, but oneness with the Divine (sayoojya). That is why forms of the Divine are generally depicted as beautiful, powerful, serene and attractive. Hari Om.
