The first thing to know is what we called “mentally retarded” is a “differently abled” person. They are in fact in a world with much less complexities than the so called “normal” people, and are child like at heart. So in a sense, they are much closer to Divine than us. Now, to make their life productive, depends on the level of their abilities. They can see pictures, listen to bhajans, draw or colour pictures listen to stories etc. based on their capability. You can model their activities in such a way that they relate to Bhagavan. They can be taught to pray and chant Om, which may also help their brain development.
