I acknowledge receipt of your e-mail of 16/8/2011 in reply to my queries. I fear that you did not fully answered my queries and you misunderstand that I am initiated to Devi Bhagavatham. First of all I am reading Devi Mahatmyam and completing within three days. I am reading Devi Bhagavatham only on Tuesdays and Fridays. You answered only my first question and there is no answer to my second question that is to say “Is it advisable to read Devi Mahatmyam on behalf of somebody if he/she did not able to read Malayalam.

Dear Mohanji,
Before reading all these texts we should know the purpose of reading them.
It is like knowing the destination before we start travelling.
Similarly, if you consider that there is (somewhere) a Devi sitting and she will bless you for your Bhakthi, then you are absolutely wrong. First we must know the meaning of “Devi” – it comes from the verb called “div” which means light(consciousness).
That is why when we light the lamp, we call “Deepam”.
So, if that Devi is your own conscious light which manifests in the form of your conscious mind, then how you are going to get benefit if somebody reads on behalf of you?
Can you satiate your hunger if somebody else eats for you?
Hope you can understand it now positively.
HariOm!
