I was reading an english translated bhagavtham, specially where Sri Hari took the form of Mohini to help the Devas get the nectar from the Asuras. After this incident, Lord Shiva wanted to see Sri Hari in the form of Mohini and inspite of severe warning from Srihari, Lord Shiva insisted in seeing him in this form and when Sri Hari appeared before Lord Shiva int he form of Mohini, Lord Shiva was enamoured by Mohini’s beauty that he was also caught in the Maya. Now I am wondering if the great ascetic Lord Shiva cannot also escape Maya, where are we low mortal beings? what chance do we have to fight against the Maya of this world, I am so discouraged.

Dear Rama,
Mohini means something that attracts. Moham is delusion.
A weak mind thinks that happiness and strength are not WITHIN, but WITHOUT.
When the mind constantly focusses on external objects, delusion develops and external attraction grows.
It slowly leads to internal weakness.
Only when you exhaust your energy after chasing all these pleasures, you will realize that nothing can satisfy and give strength to the mind.
Then the emotional weakness transforms into devotional attraction towards the Lord.
Then you realize that internally you are Shiva and your mind can get attached to the Shava(body) and also Shiva(Consciousness).
Mohini represents the things and objects that attracts your mind and Shiva is your own conscious mind.
It is not a story of Lord Shiva, but your own journey (of the mind).
