Dear Manohara Pai,
When you ask whether you can know the presence of Atma, that question itself is wrong.
“Knowing” is the action of the mind.
Mind or intellect can know any thing because of the presence of the Self or Athma.
Or, you should know that every thing is known by the mind because of the presence of Consciousness called Athma.
What you need to know is, all your knowledge has happened, is happening and will happen in the foundation of Consciousness.
That you have to experience!
