My grandmother’s brother’s son expired so is there anything that I should not go to temple and I should not do any pooja’s ..I am married staying with my in laws. I don’t believe such thing but just to know do we follow such tradition.

In the olden days when death was often due to infectious reasons the immediate family of the deceased were asked to stay away from temples and other community activities for the protection of others. In those days these precautions were important to stop the spread of the disease. Also it gave time for the family members to come out of their grief before being part of rituals and functions. We also believe though the gross body is cremated the subtle body takes some time to detach its ties completely. So the relatives stayed home and did their prayers during this period. Those things are not applicable today in a strict sense since we don’t live with extended family anymore. The strength of your mind and your attachment to the bereaved should decide the mourning time. There are no set rules on these. Hari Om.
