My parents insists me to chant various mantras like vishnu sahasranamam, lekshmi sahasranamam. But I find it difficult and meaningless to chant them without knowing their meaning. Is this way of thought correct ? How can I study the meaning of different sanskrit slokas like those in Vishnu sahasranamam ?

When you chant Sahasra Namam, the vibrations cause positive influence in the body and mind.
If you know the meaning, it is ideal.
But remember Ratnakara’s story – his mantra was “Mara Mara” which took him to Lord Rama.
