Power of Nama Japa
A remarkable example of the power pf nama japa is the revered poet and sage Sri Valmiki. An ordinary highway robber became a great enlightened sage simply by chanting the name of the Lord. It is said that initially he could only chant the name in reverse – mara – and yet it was so effective that it redeemed him forever. He went on to write the monumental epic poem Ramayana which is the essence of the Upanishads. Such is the glory of chanting the Lord’s name.
