The word denotes reaching a level where you have the Ultimate knowledge. Once you reach there, you are only a part of the Whole and no role for your individuality/ ego/ selfishness. Then you don’t need to have a separate birth with individuality either, but you remain part of the Universal Self. So no punarjanmam. To reach this level of awareness is the purpose of life as per the Hindu tradition, called Mukthi or Moksha. Hari Om.
