Namaskaram Swamiji,I was reading the introduction part of Adhyatma Ramayanam. In that it was mentioned, Ravana and Kumbhakarna knew about Rama as Avathara of Vishnu and they are only seeking death at his hand as means for salvation. They know that ‘devotion through confrontation’ is a quicker path than that of Bhakti of the ordinary type. I did not understand this part. Does it mean that path for Moksha or salvation is also by doing cruel deeds as done by Ravana ? What do we mean by ‘devotion through confrontation’ ?

There are several types of devotion explained. “Virodha bhakthi” is one of the them. The term “devotion by confrontation” does not really do justice to the concept. The purpose of devotion is met by the intensity. In virodha Bhakti, the antagonism and hatred is so intense that one cannot stop thinking about the enemy. Despite all their actions that we call cruelties, Ravana and Kumbhakarna had several virtues that made them worthy individuals and deserving to die in the hands of the Lord. Moreover, they were completing the continuum of their karma bhalam and had to be killed by Bhagavan in three consecutive lives to return to their true nature as real devotees of Hari. Hari Om
