Namaskarams, Hari Om! I am having a question which i am finding difficult to sort out. I would like to have pujya swamijis guidance on the same. In the Mahabharat there is an episode of Bhishma and princess Amba. Wherein princess Amba after being rejected by king shalva and by Bhishma has to remain unmarried. (Amba’s sisters get married off). Ambas life is shattered. Enraged and pained that she was going to be an unmarried woman, Amba swore to kill Bhishma, No doubt Amba had to face a great pain in her life situation. My question to pujya swamiji is 1) Why did Amba have to face such a painful situation, rejection, dejection, humiliation wherein there is little fault of hers? Is there any reason for the unfortunate incident in her life and her suffering. 2) Is Amba justified in taking revenge on Bhishma? If not, what should Amba have done after this unfortunate incident or what could Amba have done with her life. In short how should have Amba handled her pain, suffering and life thereon? Hinduism does not look at life as a discreet episode. It is a continuum of a previous life or lives. You may carry on the results of your prior actions to a following life that causes you pain. But what action you take in response to the pain is also important in accruing good karma for future. If you can surrender painful experiences to the feet of Bhagavan and develop a strong mind to overcome the situation life will flow on. Amba chose to commit suicide which showed her inherent weakness. She could have dedicated her life for the betterment of the society in whichever way she could contribute.
