Namaste swami…Can we meditate on some songs or kirtans or we should concentrate on breath only. Which is more effective and strong? What is ur opinion Swamiji.

Meditation has been wrongly understood by people as sitting cross-legged, chanting om or breathing deep. Though these techniques are all advised to train ourselves in the beginning, meditation is the process of dissolving the “I” and related thoughts to the deeper levels of your being. This can be achieved by doing anything that completely dissolves your identity. That is why it is said that some people work or great musicians sing to levels that reach meditation. So it is not what you do, but the involvement in the process, such that your “I” ness becomes non-existent, that counts as meditation. You could be meditative while doing any of your chores. Sitting cross-legged or chanting Om is just to train your mind to drop thoughts and merge into silence. This can very well be achieved with kirtans too. Hari Om.
