Dear Varun, Hari Om!
Narayan means the one who manifests through water.
Through water alone the life can manifest in the case of all the living beings.
Naram (water) ayanam ( one who contains the water). Naram is knowledge and Ayanam is the one who can be understood and experienced through knowledge.
