Poojya Swamiji: I wondered many times what is the meaning of some of the things Hindu monks use such as ochre robes and later on I was told that it is of significance to show “burning of desires.” Now my question is why do they change their names other than for their identity as some type of monkhood, but why “Ananda?” Sorry, if I am silly to inquire these things.

Dear Padminiji,
To understand some thing which is very subtle( SOOKSHMAM) we use symbols. For example a dress of the Doctor &Lawyer etc.
Similarly our scriptures describes the Sanyasi.
However it is not the dress and name that makes someone a real sanyasi.
It is the STATE OF MIND which is most important.
If the mind is able to balance the good and bad experiences he or she is a Sanyasi irrespective of the dress and name.
So develop a strong mind and be a Sanyasi.
