Pranam Swamiji, Recently noticed that Brahmin, kshathriya and Ezhava family take “pula valayma” when father related members die or take birth where as Nair and other families take “pula valayma” when mother related members die or take birth. Why we are still keeping “Achan Thavazhi” and “Amma thavazhi”.. Previously it may be to protect family properties, but now as per court verdict, both daughters and sons have equal rights even if married. Since we are from both father and mother, we should keep customs and traditions of both families. Pls advs your opinion..

Social structure is laid at different times and in different communities as per the needs of the society. Rituals and practices are created accordingly. As times and needs change, certain rituals and practices can be modified. It is perfect in the days of nuclear families to follow the traditions of the paternal and maternal families. Hari Om.
