Mahabharata was written as a great background for Veda Vyasa to present the Bhagavad Gita. As such, every character in Mahabharata has a metaphysical angle too. Arjuna represents a mind that wants to know the truth of life or he is the representative of a Sadhak. But when we try to discern which of your qualities are good or bad in the battle of life, we often become confused, like Arjuna who does not know who is a friend/enemy. So we become confused and distressed. This state of mind of the Sadhak is explained in Chapter one. Our mind is often blind and hence adamant on our stands (Blind mind is represented by Dhritha-Rashtra, meaning hold kingdom tightly). This blind mind has to ask Sanjaya (Samyak-Jaya) or our power of introspection to tell us what is happening in our world of thoughts where good and bad qualities fight. Please read the notes on Bhagavad Gita on the Bhagavatham Village Facebook page for more clarity. Hari Om.
