Pranam Swamiji, We celebrate Onam in memory of golden days when Mahabali ruled Kerala. At that time everybody was happy and no scarcity or calamities. Indran got envious seeing these and told Vishnu that people in Kerala are living better than people in swarga loka. and they will forget devathas and will become greedy. Vishnu understood the situation and came as Vamana and sent Mahabali to suthala loka and Indran and Co all are happy. My question what was the situation after Mahabali left Kerala, must be worse and restricted to one day on Chinga masam Thiruvonam day. Was this correct? If Mahabali was greeding, he cud hv punished in some other way protecting Kerala to be ruled by him as it was a a precious era. Pls advs. .

Hari Ohm . In Bhgavatham Mahabali never ruled Kerala.Kerala could have been a part of his kingdom. Bali was never ever greedy but he was a pious,sincere and devoted king who was taking care of the welfare of his people . The purpose of Vamana avathar was not to punish Bali but to teach everyone that a true devotee of Lord never breaks down when they face adversities and challenges.Everyone will have to face bad time ,no one can expect good things will always happen around.We all rejoice fully celebrate our luck but when challenges come we get disturbed ,become nervous and loose emotional balance.Here Mahabali who sacrificed his whole wealth and at the same time surrendered his mind at the Lord’s feet.Lord blessed and respectfully uplifted him to ‘Suthalam’ (not demeaned him to ‘pathalam’ as we heard) like we honour our great leaders with awards such as Bharathratna etc .Mahabali was a noble soul and he is respected in our Kerala due to his attitude and actions.
