Pranam Swamiji, We have scientific explanations about the origin of the universe, the sun, moon and planets. But what do our scriptures say about the the origin of this universe? I have heard that all religious texts say everything came into being because God wanted to create. A formless God created forms – sun, moon, stars and planets? Could you please explain?

This is the problem in following hearsays. Semitic religions have the concept of a creator who did “creation”. But Hinduism believes everything you see was already here in one form or the other, exactly like the scientific notion of the Origin of the Universe. We don’t “believe” in a creator. A lot of people say Brahma is the “creator” as per Hinduism. Please understand Brahma represents the mind (with its 4 kinds of thoughts-4 heads of Brahma) which creates everything of form. It is important that we all make conscious efforts to study our scriptures at least for 10 minutes a day and teach our children properly, so the younger generation is not misguided by the semitic thoughts which is widely propagated. Hari Om.
