Pranam Swamiji, At the time of pooja, priest invite river Ganga to a pooja vessel chanting mantra “Ganga agacha agacha avahayami”. Similarly devata also invited. At pithru pooja, pithrukal also invited. When they do this with flowers, rice, chandan and holy water, will the presence of Ganga, Devata or Pithru be there. If this is only a belief that they will come, why we spent so much money for these rituals. How far our rituals so truthful and faithful. Pls advs.

There is no limit to the exploitation that happens around poor understanding of rituals. When you do pithru tharpanam it is important to bring your forefathers into your mind with full attention and pay your due respects. Avahanam was just considered a means to make you feel their presence there. If you can mentally concentrate on their souls and pay respects to them, there is no need for any money spending rituals.
