Pranamam Swamiji – I am regularly reading Ramayanam, Bhagwad Geetha, Bhagawatham and Narayaneeyam. Just now got the news that my cousin sister expired after prolonged illness. There is no restriction on reading the scriptures in any physical/ environmental conditions as long as your mind is focussed and involved. Now, relatives staying away from temples was advised for a social reason. In olden days, infectious deaths were common and we had extended families staying in the same house. Two weeks gave enough time for the family to come out of the depressed mood and finish all rituals related to the death in private. Now times have changed, you don’t need to change your routine if your cousin was not staying with you or her departure has not badly affected your mental equilibrium. Continuing to chant in tough times is better than brooding over the loss. Hari Om.
