Pranamam Swamiji. I follow one schedule now a days. Getting up in the morning at 5.30am, concentrate and recite AUM 11 times (by making that sound), sitting on the bed right there. Then get out of bed, wash my face (without washing my mouth), hands and feet and take some water within my palm and by narrating the mantra / shloka “Gange ch Yamune…sannidhim kuru” sprinkle it on my head. Then I have 3 to 4 glasses of water and after 3 to 5 minutes I go to toilet, then brush my teeth and take a full bath. The reason why I drink water before a proper full bath is I have heard of benefits of drinking water empty stomach without even cleaning my mouth. I want to take Ayyappa vridam for 41 days. So my question in this context is: Is it OK to follow the same schedule of having water before going for a full bath during vridam time…?

A lot of people take the concept of “vrutham” as a Ritual of a few “dos and don’ts”. 41 days is the time needed for your entire body cells to go through a cycle of rejuvenation. At the same time, you mentally renew yourself with the right thoughts and actions, so at the end of a Mandalam you are a new man, physically, mentally and spiritually. Your healthy habits don’t need to change for the sake of vrutham…..focus on changing your unnecessary fears, do regular pranayama and sadhanas, encourage the right thoughts……and elevate yourself to the level of SWAMI and understand TATWAMASI. Hari Om.
